I Almost Fainted Dancing Yesterday and This Is What It Taught Me

Are you ready to take the leap?

Hey there,

Last night, I had the opportunity to participate in a dance intensive after a decade-long hiatus from dancing.

This was more than a dance class. It was 3 hours of fast-paced choreography with a celebrity choreographer to the point that I could feel my heart beating out of my chest.

I was thirsty and couldn't feel my feet, but the 8 counts just kept on coming.

My inner saboteur was louder than ever—

"You're not going to make it."

"You're going to throw up."

"They're going to kick you out."

Do these voices sound familiar to you?

But none of these things happened.

Instead, halfway through the class, I had a realization.

My heart was beating slower. I was picking up the movements. I was having fun.

By the end, I felt proud of myself because I did the damn thing (performance is this Sunday!).

You're likely familiar with these voices as they tend to show up for any big change—be it a new career or learning a new skill.

Here's what's actually happening when you hear that voice👇

➡️ Your body is freaking out because it's learning something new
➡️ This signals to our brain that we're not safe
➡️ So our inner saboteur "attempts" to protect us

Here’s where self-awareness is key.

Don't fall for it. Know that your inner saboteur has positive intent. It’s just flat out wrong.

Instead, do this:

➡️ Remember your inner saboteur is just trying to keep you "safe"
➡️ Remind that voice that you ARE safe
➡️ Get back to taking that leap, learning that skill, and making that decision
